The Boatshed

Our workshop is located in Taitung city inside the old sugar factory. A few times a year we open the workshop for kids and families to participate in creating a boat with their own hands. For the last few years we have been building the wooden optimist, it has been a great experience for the kids and their parents to create their own water craft together. 

 

This year, we are building an Austronesian outrigger canoe, partnering with the Changbin Wind Voyagers, in order to create a fleet of traditionally built sailing canoes and recover the ancestral sailing knowledge of the aboriginal people. The goal from Changbin Wind Voyagers is to create a community of sea farers and in 2026 to welcome the Hōkūleʻa to Taiwan.
