Our Story

Taitung Sailing School was established in 2019. Our mission is to introduce and commence a sailing culture in Taitung province, to make it accessible and affordable for every child. The goal is to provide comprehensive ocean education and safety to the local community.

The Founder

Fede came to Taiwan, after many years travelling the world as a sailing instructor, he was surprised by the lack of sailing presence on the island. The conditions were perfect, yet options were scarce. Fede saw an opportunity to get the local kids interested and acquainted in the sailing culture, whilst bringing more awareness and safety of the ocean to the community. Combining his love for the ocean, and passion for teaching sailing, he decided to make the beautiful east coast his new home. Thus came the start of Taitung Sailing School.

The vision of Taitung Sailing School has come a long way and is slowly being realized, it was made possible by the generous donation of old boats from many yacht clubs from Spain, some from where Fede grew up and learnt to sail. Since then it has continued to grow and expand into the community it is today.

Internal Structure

Taitung Sailing School is the conjunction of two entities. Taitung Sailing Ltd and Taitung Sailing Association.

Taitung Sailing Ltd (Tax Reg. 90379980) is our corporate brand. When the the school started we decided that in order to develop a sailing culture here, it needed to be self-sustainable. Unlike most of the dinghy schools in the country, we are not government funded. We have successfully operated full summer and winter camps, adult classes and countless school projects, in order to sustain our non-profit projects.

Taitung Sailing Association, formally as 台東縣體育會帆船委員會, is our non-profit branch. Huge part of our work is establishing relationship with the local community in order to make sailing accessible to all kids of the region. While we focus mainly on the east coast of Taiwan for now, we have begun to branch out- starting projects on the offshore islands such as Orchid Island (Lanyu) and the rest of the country . We are now a part of the national Chinese-Taipei Sailing Committee, where our kids can represent the province in the national events, and hopefully compete at an international level in the near future.
